สวนหลวง ร.๙ ตั้งอยู่ที่แขวงหนองบอน เขตประเวศ กรุงเทพมหานคร มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ ๕๐๐ ไร่ มูลนิธิสวนหลวง ร.๙ เป็นฝ่ายสนับสนุนกิจการ โดยมีคณะกรรมการมูลนิธิสวนหลวง ร.๙ คณะกรรมการบริหารสวนหลวง ร.๙ และกรุงเทพมหานคร ร่วมดำเนินการให้สวนมีสภาพตามวัตถุประสงค์ที่ได้ตั้งไว้ และศาสตราจารย์กิตติคุณเดชา บุญค้ำเป็นผู้ออกแบบผังหลัก สวนหลวง ร.๙ เปิดให้เข้าชมสวนทุกวันตั้งแต่เวลา ๐๕.๐๐ – ๑๙.๐๐ น. แต่เก็บค่าผ่านประตูคนละ ๑๐ บาท ตั้งแต่เวลา ๐๙.๐๐ – ๑๗.๐๐ น. สำหรับผู้ที่ต้องการเข้าชมเป็นหมู่คณะ และต้องการเจ้าหน้าที่นำชม ติดต่อได้ที่สำนักงานมูลนิสวนหลวง ร.๙ ณ อาคารชายชล
สวนหลวง ร.๙ แบ่งพื้นที่ออกเป็น ๖ บริเวณ ดังนี้ บริเวณ ที่ ๑ อุทยานมหาราช พื้นที่ประมาณ ๒๑ ไร่ ประกอบด้วยหอรัชมงคล ด้านหน้าเป็นสวนราชพฤกษ์ และสระน้ำพุขนาดใหญ่ ๓ สระ ตกแต่งด้วยไม้ดอกไม้ประดับอย่างสวยงาม ภายในจัดเป็นห้องกระจก ๙ ห้อง แสดงพระราชประวัติ พระราชจริยวัตร และโครงการในพระราชดำริ ตลอดจนเครื่องใช้ส่วนพระองค์บางอย่าง และมีห้องประชุมขนาดใหญ่ ๕๐๐ ที่นั่ง
