An international garden featuring arrangements from different regions of the world can also be found in Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park :

-  Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden are representing the eastern countries of the world.

-  Spanish, British, French and Italian Gardens are representing countries of the western world.

-  The United States of America is represented by  Geodesic dome used for planting drought-resistant plants such as cacti.

               The purpose of establishing and international garden was to demonstrate the different garden styles found throughout the world. During the construction phase of the international garden project, co-operation and feedback was received from the respective country ambassadors to ensure the designs were interpreted correctly.

The seven international gardens are accommodated to beautify the areas and make them attractive and appealing to visitors.

The United States of America : Geodesic dome

Shrub, 2-2.5 m tall; all parts with white latex; branches close to the main axis.  Leaves simple, alternate, crowded at the end of the twigs; apex acute, base cuneate; margin entire; petiole 1-1.5 cm.  Flowers white, crowded at the terminal end of the branches; 7 cm in diameter; pedicel 1-1.5  cm; calyx 5, broadly ovate; petals fused at base, lower part yellow, upper part expand 5-lobed; stamens 5; ovary inferior. Fruit of paired follicles; brownish; seed flat with a membranous wing.

Silver Trumpet Tree ,   Scientific Name :Tabebuia aurea (Silva Manso) Benth. & Hook. ex S.Moore   , Family BIGNONIACEAE

เหลืองปรีดียาธร  Lueng Prediyathorn

Small tree 5-8 m high.  Leaves palmately compound; leaflets 5-7; oblong-elliptic, 4.5-8.3 by 1.3-2.4 cm; apex and base rounded, margin entire; coriaceous; petiole 0.5-4 cm. Inflorescence                a panicle, terminal, cluster of 6-10 flowers.  Flowers bright yellow; funnel form; petals fused at base, forming a conical tube; upper part expand to 5 clefts, thin, apex rather round; stamens 4, didynamous.  Fruit a capsule about 10 cm long; dehiscent longitudinally; seeds many, winged.

Jade Vine

Scientific Name : Strongylodon macrobotrys A.Gray   Family : LEGUMINOSAE-PAPILIONOIDEAE

พวงหยก Phuang yok

Woody climber.  Leaves trifoliate, the middle leaflet largest; ovate to elliptic, 10-20 by 5-7 cm; glabrous, apex acute, base cuneate; margin entire.  Inflorescence large raceme, axillary, drooping, 50-70 cm long, many flowers.  Flowers jade-green colour, pea-shaped, 5-6 cm long; calyx pale purplish, cup-shaped; petals 5, irregular; standard upright, broadly ovate, bend backward; wings oblong; keels oblong, curved with beak; stamens 10.  Fruit a flat legume, 15 cm long, breaking off longitudinally when mature; seeds 3-10, brown colour.

Krao ruesi

Climber, up to 4 m long or more;  branches glabrous; red-brown. Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic or oblong, 6-6.5 by 4-4.5 cm; apex acuminate or abrouptly pointed. Flowers cream to orange with purple spots and streaks in throat, lobes ovate, abruptly constricted to purple tails often 30 cm. long, scales in mouth, short, obtuse, deep yellow; stamen 5; ovary superior. Fruit of two divergent follicle, connate at base unknown in Thailand.

              The external contour of the logo traces the shape of a lotus bud. Inside the figure is a big banyan spreading its boughs and branchs into an overhanging canopy, with underbrush growing underneath. In the center stands the tree deity, Rukkha Devata, inside a crystal pavilion. The apex of the lotus is topped with the Great Crown and the traditional Thai digit ๙ (9) inside.

Area 1 – The Garden of the Great King
Taking up an area of  21 rai, the Garden of the Great King is home to the Ratchamangkhala Pavilion, In front of the Pavilion is the Ratchaphruek (Cassia fistula) garden and three large ponds with fountains that have been beautifully decorated with flowering and ornamental plants. The pavilion’s interior contains nine mirrored rooms that exhibit various facts of His Majesty’s life, artefacts and background information on projects initiated by the royal family. There is also a meeting room with seating capacity of 500.

Area 2 – The Botanic Garden
The garden is within an area of 150 Rai and houses a massive collection of plant species. Organized by their taxonomic and ecological settings, the plants are used for reserch, conservation and education purposes. A herbarium, library, and the office for the garden’s administrative and technical staff can also be found within the Botanical Hall. Ferns and Orchids Greenhouse, Indoor Plants Greenhouse, Geodesic Dome and  the Pavilion in the center of the Lotus Pond, otherwise known as the Thakon Phrakiat Pavilion. The pavilion is used as a conference or seminar centre. The Office Building of the Public Parks of Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park owned by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, its primary responsibility is the upkeep of the garden as well as tree planting and seed propogation.

Area 3 – The Reservoir (Traphang Kaew Keb Nam)
An initiative of His Majesty, the Reservoir was built to minimize the impact of flooding in Bangkok’s eastern suburbs and covers 40 rai in area. Today, the reservoir is popular for water sports. Chai Chon Pavilion, situated on the north bank of the Reservoir, consisting of executive Committee of Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park Office, a souvenir shop and restaurant.

Area 4 – Romanee Garden
Using up an area of approximately 50 rai. Romanee Garden was designed to resemble natural habitats and environments found throughout upcountry Thailand. Rocks, plants and flowers were taken from difference part of the country and arranged to imitate natural scenes thereby transporting the visitor into the beautiful forests of Thailand. The mountains, waterfalls, and creeks were placed in the center of the garden. And fragrant plants have been planted around  Phut-Chan Pavilion. We can see the commemorative sculpture, depicting the activities of  Her Majesty the Queen on the bank of the Reservior.

Area 5 – The Water Garden
The water garden occupies an area of approximately 40 rai, With a royal command from His Majesty the King, Water Garden was created to resemble a natural ‘Phru’ (bog) habitat and home for aquatic fowl and other aquatic species. Visitors to the garden can study the behavioural patterns of its in habitants and learn about the different plants and their purposes.

Area 6 – The Sanam Rasdara and Sport Center
The Sanam Rasdara and Sports Centre covers an area of approximately 70 rai. The musical pavilion and large lawn in front is used as an outdoor stage for various performances. The lawn is also used as a market place for ornamental plants during the ‘Magnificent Plants that Beautify the Suan Luang Rama IX Flowers Festival ’ held in early December. The Sports centre includes a swimming pool and tennis courts.

International Garden
Further to six aforementioned areas an international garden featuring arrangements from different regions of the world can also be found in Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park:

As can be seen, Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park consist of a wide array of plant species. including trees, shrubs, climbers, flowering plants, foliage plants, cover crops, wild plants, and introduced plants.
Additionally, specific plant groups can be found in the following garden:
- Lotuses and Water lilies garden with 40 species/varieties.
- Coconuts garden with 40 species/varieties.
- Herbals garden with about 200 plus species
- Palms (plants in the family Palmae) of about 70 species
- Grasses (plants in the family Gramineae) of about 40 species
- Climbers of about 60 species
- Designated plants form all 76 provinces of Thailand.

Altogether, 2,300 plant species can be found in Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park. The Park is considered to be a place for the promoting, publicizing, disseminating of knowledge and understanding of the importance in plant conservation for all generations. They’re also an ideal place for keeping fit and healthy – physical exercising and mental exercising

The Park has an area of 500 rai. Responsibility for the maintenance of the park and its day-to-day operations belongs to Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park Foundation which reports back all activity to Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park Executive Committee and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA.) The Park is open to the public during 0500-1900 daily. Please note that an admission fee is charged between 0900-1700 hours. For those who would like to visit as a group and request the services of an official guide, should contact the office of Suan Luang Rama IX Foundation at Chai Chon Building.

Within Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park, a variety of activities can be undertaken such as: Walk and run rallies, aerobics, swordplay, Tai-kek, and Yok. In addition, there is an exercise facility containing exercising equipments for both children and adults. It also has maze for mind exercise and canose for exercising the body. A yearly highlight is the ‘Magnificent Plants that Beautify the Suan Luang Rama IX Flolwers Festival ’ held in early December annually.

The conception and construction of Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park was a joint effort between the private and public sectors. Generous financial support, in the form of donations, was also received from Thai community. The park was a gift to His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of his 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 1987.

The main objectives are threefold:
1. To make Suan Luang Rama IX Public Park the venue for the promotion of botanical knowledge.
2. To maintain a sizeable collection of various plant species for educational and recreational purposes.
3. To build awereness and understanding of the need to conserve our natural resources and the environment in which we live.

His Majesty the King graciously presided over the inaugurate of the park on 1st December 1987
